I am very grateful for Christian Science

I am very grateful for Christian Science. It is twenty-six years since I first heard about it, at a time when I was not happy and was often very downhearted. I went regularly to the Dutch Reformed church, and admired the sermons; but they did not help me in my daily life. I thought there was no place for me, and no work that I could no properly. This brought me to an act of desperation, on account of which I was taken up nearly dead. For three months I had to lie down on my back without being able to move; after that I was allowed to get up, but I could not walk, and could scarcely bend the knees. When I began to walk, crutches had to be used.

A lady who was a Christian Scientist visited me and spoke hopefully to me. At my request she told me about Christian Science, and I read some literature and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which I thought very difficult to understand. We talked much, as our circumstances were similar, and she explained everything to me very clearly.

After eight months I was allowed to leave the hospital. I dreaded to return among people, but this lady helped me in Science; and when I was at home again, everything went much better than I expected. After a while walking became more normal.
