Evening Dispatch

A certain doctor, in his Schofield memorial lecture in London, draws attention to "the steady drift of the masses away from all church connections," and "the extraordinary vogue of fancy religions," among which he classifies Christian Science.

All religious reforms have been met in their early stages with misapprehension and suspicion, and the history of Christian Science affords no exception to this rule. Would it not be well, then, for our critics to consider earnestly what it is in Christian Science that attracts an ever increasing number of people, not only to the Sunday services, but also to the midweek meetings, held all the year round?

When our brethren of the other Protestant churches take their stand on the Scriptural definition of God as omnipotent, ever present, infinite Spirit, divine Life and Love, the one and only cause and creator, and of man as made in His image and likeness, they will cease to have faith in material remedies and, turning wholly to spiritual means, will be able to carry out fully our Lord's commands to preach the gospel and heal the sick.
