Reports from the Field

[Annual Report of the Christian Science Public Service Committee for Nebraska]

The past year has been one of steady progress, showing increased activity in all the institutions where services have previously been conducted, and in two others, at Kearney and Norfolk. We were permitted to hold services at the Woman's Reformatory at York, taking our turn with other denominations. Regular weekly services such as we have in our churches are conducted at all these institutions.

The number of those attending the services at the State Penitentiary at Lincoln remains about the same, some being released and new ones becoming interested. The lecture given by First Church of Christ, Scientist, Omaha, was greatly appreciated, and it increased the interest and the number attending the regular services. Twelve new copies of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy have been placed among the men.

A good attendance is maintained at the Hawthorne Reformatory. Some of the young men take a very intelligent interest in Christian Science, which is shown by requests for treatment, the need for more books in the library, and the demand for more literature. Some good healings have been reported. The Christian Science Monitor was used in a source of study in the English class conducted by one of the guards. Forty extra Monitors were sent each week for this purpose during their school year. Ours was the only service scheduled for Thanksgiving Day last year [1930].
