On page 215 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read, "Whatever is governed by God, is never for an instant deprived of the light and might of intelligence and Life." The active realization of this expression of Truth saved me from what appeared to be certain death in a motor accident. I was driving alone in a small car when I was struck with such terrific force by a large touring car that I was flung through the closed door on the opposite side of my car, tearing it from its hinges, and landed full on my face on the road, where the impact of the collision drove my own car on to me. In the moment when the other car hit me, I had time to realize that nothing could separate me for one minute from God, my true Life. When help came, I was able to give my address and ask to be taken home instead of to a hospital; and on the way I worked unceasingly for life and intelligence, and so never lost consciousness. I was able to ask that a Christian Science practitioner should be telephoned for as soon as I reached the house. Through her steadfast and loving work the intense pain caused by torn muscles and severe sprains was overcome. At the end of four days I was up and dressed, with all bandages discarded, and with no trace of disfigurement on my face, though I had been hardly recognizable at the time of the accident.

The doctor who had been sent for, with great courtesy and consideration, knowing I was a Christian Scientist, confined himself to investigating what damage had been done and to bandaging the cuts. I met him two months later and he told me he considered it nothing short of a miracle that I had not been killed, and added that he thought it marvelous to see me going about so well and strong, when most people after such an accident would have been out of action for a year.

I cannot be grateful enough for this experience, which has taught me still another lesson—that no matter how terrible material conditions may appear, they are no part of our real life. I am so grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who showed us this truth through Christian Science; also to all those who have helped me in my study of Christian Science since I first became interested in it eighteen years ago; and for class instruction and membership in The Mother Church and a branch church.—(Mrs.) Dorothy Jacob, Burton-in-Wirral, Cheshire, England.
