When I was led to Christian Science I was in a state of discouragement, dejection, and physical collapse which, according to human opinion, could be traced to overwork followed by lack of employment and of means of subsistence, the latter resulting in a family quarrel. I looked upon myself as a completely shattered human being, deserted by the world and surrounded by heartlessness.

At this point our good Father-Mother God, through a dear friend, sent me the wondrous message of Christian Science. I bought a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and with greatest interest set to work to study this, to me, strange literature; for, indeed, in spite of the great simplicity of its contents, it seemed to me hard to understand.

At this time I obtained a new position with a good salary, and the relations between my family and me seemed to become kindly again, a fact which unfortunately caused me to temporarily give up this truth-blazoning spiritual message. Some time later, when again under the pressure of circumstances, I went back to it, this time to do in grateful loyalty what our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, so pointedly advises (Science and Health, p. 261), "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true," and thus express man's oneness with his creator.
