The possession of even a superficial understanding of Christian Science and the life of its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, would prevent the belief or conclusion that this religion is in any wise analogous to mesmerism, Freudism, magnetism, or mental suggestion.

Christian Science does not heal the sick through faith in any supposed ability of the human mind to govern or control the body. It heals through the prayer of spiritual understanding, which is the exemplification of Jesus' promise that "ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," and which is in obedience to Paul's injunction, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." Christian Science recognizes God, infinite good, as the only power governing man and creation, and its healing and regenerating influence in the lives of countless thousands of men and women in every land is the result of its unwavering adherence to the First Commandment.
