Creek-County-Register
In a recent issue of the Creek-County-Register there appeared an advertisement for a spiritual medium and Spiritual Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and in connection a lengthy report heralding the ability of the medium, not as a spiritualist, but as a Christian Scientist. The advertisement and the report attempt to classify and associate Christian Science with the mysticism of spiritualism by stating that the operator of the Tulsa church referred to is an active member of the Christian Science church. The advertisement and the report misstate the facts and warrant correction, that your readers and the general public may not be deluded by false statements.
Christian Scientists have no quarrel with those who follow the teachings of spiritualism, or with any other organization, but there is a yawning chasm between spiritualism and Christian Science. The latter is based upon the word and works of the master Metaphysician, Christ Jesus, and the ultimate aim of the Christian Science religion is to perpetuate his word and works in the present age.
Christian Science has nothing whatever to offer in the way of mysticism; but, on the other hand, the teaching of Christian Science removes mysticism from the thought of the conscientious student seeking to understand the God who "is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and author of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key tothe Scriptures," in a chapter entitled "Christian Science versus Spiritualism," writes on page 79: "Spiritualism relies upon human beliefs and hypotheses. Christian Science removes these beliefs and hypotheses through the higher understanding of God, for Christian Science, resting on divine Principle, not on material personalities, in its revelation of immortality, introduces the harmony of being."
