Expression versus Depression
Christian Scientists of the whole world are today called to a great purpose, the building of our new Publishing House. It means one aim, one motive, all working together; it also should mean for us a Pentecostal blessing.
Thought goes back to the call to build the original Mother Church. The Christian Science workers were comparatively so small in number, so engrossed in their individual problems, that they had not thought, to any great extent, of building edifices—of externalizing their understanding of Christian Science as a religion—but they answered the call. Later came the next great demand for the building of The Mother Church extension. They were more in number then, and the movement more widespread. When the original edifice was built, few outside of the United States and Canada, few outside of those speaking the English language, were interested in Christian Science. When the extension was built, Christian Science had gone across the ocean, and many languages, many countries, were represented. Today Christian Science, by means of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and our Leader's other writings, and the periodicals, has circled the globe, until many languages and tongues are represented in the membership of the Christian Science church.
The spiritual awakening expressed through the building of the new Publishing House can be to us a veritable Pentecost—the outpouring, the influx, of the Holy Ghost. St. Paul says, "The kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." Mrs. Eddy gives us the meaning of "Holy Ghost" on page 588 of Science and Health as, "Divine Science; the development of eternal Life, Truth, and Love."
