The revivalist who has been conducting a series of meetings in your city, and who was quoted at considerable length in your issue of March 12, made a reference to Christian Science that, without explanation, might be confusing to some of your readers.

Our critic said that physical science recognizes matter, but that Christian Science denies it. Christian Scientists, taking the inspired Word of the Bible as their guide, find therein Scriptural authority for their convictions. For example, these references are significant: "God is a Spirit;" "All things were made by him;" "God created man in his own image;" and "God saw every thing that he had made, and behold, it was very good." God, good, is recognized by Christian Science as the only cause or creator; therefore creation is recognized as spiritual, and matter is seen to be illusion, falsity, the seeming product of the carnal mind, which Paul refers to as "enmity against God."

Christian Science does not brush aside all that seems a necessary and important part of our human experience and leave us without that which is real, nor does it leave us out of the reach of God. Christian Science does teach us that we are living in a world of thought and that as our thinking is brought into harmony with God, divine Mind, we begin to see, although at first faintly, spiritual reality, manifested in more harmonious and worthy lives.
