Jesus said, "Be not afraid," and "Fear not."
Jesus said, "Be not afraid," and "Fear not." He proved the Christian way practical; but in my own experience of early deliberations on religious matters the wonder was that Christians were so unlike him. I was lovingly taught to respect and desire Christianity, but on the other hand cautioned continually to take thought on matters of food, physical exertion, and climate, as powerful to prolong or destroy life. The beautiful admonition of Jesus, "Be not afraid," became to me an empty saying.
Months in the hospital, and still no hope for future health, was the procedure before I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. My husband, learning of what the book had done for others, sent me a copy. He hoped that I might be healed and able to travel with him. From the first reading, strength, health, and confidence in God began to come into my experience, benefiting a small daughter as well as myself. One morning after reading the book, I experienced an almost instantaneous healing. A familiar pain presented itself. It always had meant hours or days of suffering to follow. I decided to cling steadfastly in thought to what I had read and believed in Science and Health. It required a mental struggle; but finally I clearly realized it as a fact that we surely can depend on the power and presence of God, understood in Christian Science as all-loving and all-good, without exception as to place or time. At that point the pain left; and it has never returned. That was over seventeen years ago.
Ten years following this healing were spent in travel, seven to nine months annually, from California to New York, and through Central and South America. I was healthy, and rejoiced daily in God's eternal goodness. Demonstrations made in rearing and educating a child under such conditions of living, and without separation, form a chapter of gratitude in themselves. Not once was need felt for any other medicine than that of divine Mind.
