It is interesting, as well as pleasing, to observe that an ever increasing number of thinking people are taking notice of and commenting favorably on the teaching of Christian Science. For example, in a syndicated article published in your newspaper of March 9, under the caption, "Diet and Health," the writer states, "I agree with Christian Scientists, at least to this extent, that fear is an actual cause of disease—mental and spiritual, if not bodily."
Christian Science teaches that from the standpoint of the physical senses fear is a cause of sickness. It does not stop there, however, but goes on to prove logically to the satisfaction of many who have been healed of disease and sin through its teachings that what is called fear has no foundation in Principle, and therefore no actual power to cause either disease or sin. It teaches that God is Love; that whatever actually exists God made; that "it was very good," and that "without him was not any thing made that was made." Continuing along this line of thinking, it becomes apparent that what is called fear could not emanate from God, and, therefore, has no actual existence. Nothing, therefore, exists for mankind to be afraid of. "God is love," writes John; and, "There is no fear in love." It is the understanding of this, as explained in Christian Science, that destroys the false sense of fear and heals the sick.
In this connection there is healing in the following statement by Mrs. Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, which reads: "Science saith to fear, 'You are the cause of all sickness; but you are a self-constituted falsity,—you are darkness, nothingness. You are without "hope, and without God in the world." You do not exist, and have no right to exist, for "perfect Love casteth out fear"'" (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 61).
