I am writing this testimony to express gratitude for many healings which we have had in our family of three through the application of Christian Science, but especially for one of paralysis which took place in our home in the summer of 1927. I awoke one morning and found that I could not waken my husband: he was quite unconscious. I called my sister-in-law, a nurse, who was visiting in the house. She is not a Christian Scientist. She took his pulse and was very much frightened, for the heartbeats were low, irregular, and fluctuating.
We were a long way from any practitioner, but I got a telephone message through to one over two hundred miles from us. Thirty minutes from the time the message was received the heart improved, and within four hours my husband opened his eyes and awoke, perfectly conscious; but his eyesight was badly affected, as well as his speech; so much so that we could understand only a word or two. He went to sleep naturally and awoke four hours later perfectly well, except for slight weakness and imperfect eyesight. He dressed and came downstairs for supper with the family, and in three days he was working on the farm as usual. His eyesight soon became normal and the weakness left him in a few days. He is over sixty years of age, and looks better than he did before this illness.
Another healing for which we feel we cannot be grateful enough was that of our son. When a boy of fourteen he developed a severe form of insanity; the suffering for him and also for us was intense. There was so much to be overcome in our own thinking, and so much fear, that the healing was slow, and we were often tempted to give up in despair. However, as the boy was healed of some physical ailments during this time,—stiff fingers, caused from a badly set broken wrist, a rupture, and chronic gatherings in his ears,—we held to Christian Science, and after several years the healing came. This boy is now a healthy, normal man.
