Four years ago I was led into Christian Science through some very dear friends. For eight or ten years I had been taking medicine steadily for various troubles; in fact, I was never free from some kind of sickness. Every winter I would take two or three severe colds; and I had several nasal operations which did not benefit me. I had worked for eighteen years for a prominent wholesale house in the capacity of buyer in one of their departments. Changing business conditions seemed to make it desirable for me to resign and start a business of my own, but lack of confidence kept me from doing so. Worry over this caused me to have a nervous breakdown.
I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, together with the Bible, regularly; also, I found many helpful articles in The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel, and attended services regularly whenever possible, whether at home or away on business trips. A practitioner gave me much help during the first few months. My health improved slowly but steadily, and in reading the Bible I found so many promises made by God to His children that I gained the courage to resign my position and enter into business on my own account. To-day I want to give grateful acknowledgment that I am in a fair way to do my share in the building up of a prosperous business, and I am sure that without the better understanding of God given me by Christian Science fear would have kept me from taking this step.
Far outweighing material prosperity is the assurance granted me of God's ever present love and care. I have found an absolute foundation in the words of the Master, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you," namely, health, harmony, and prosperity. I am most grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her marvelous work of interpreting the Bible, and I am also very grateful to my dear wife and my children for their love and help generously given in my need.
