Our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 3): "Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more. Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech." I joyfully tell a few of the many blessings that have come to me and mine since this wonderful truth came into our home.

A nervous trouble was the cause of my first trying Christian Science, which I did to satisfy my husband. I did not believe that the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner could do me any more good than the prayers of anyone else, but after talking with the practitioner I knew she had something I did not have. The first treatment gave me rest, the first rest I had had in several months. Six months later I gave birth without pain to a ten-pound baby.

Shortly after this we moved to a ranch, about sixty-five miles from help of any kind, except the new-found truth, which at that time was not very well understood. We were many miles from a practitioner, without any of the modern conveniences, such as telephone or street car; it took three days for the mail to make the trip to a practitioner, or it was a long day's drive with horses. With faith in God and confidence in the practitioner, who told us that God was everywhere present, we left behind all material remedies, which were many. When anything was wrong with the children we read to them from Science and Health with confidence that God would take care of them.
