In 1925 I was forced to break up and dispose of the furnishings of two homes, and this brought about a sense of discontent and homesickness. In taking up new living quarters, however, I was directed to the home of a Christian Scientist, and I very soon became interested in Christian Science, seeking relief from the depression that tried to bind me. Early in my study I was led to seek a definition of "home," and found the word defined in a dictionary as "the eternal abode of the soul." A careful study of this definition lifted me above any sense of reality in a material home and thereby healed me at once, proving the truthfulness of Mrs. Eddy's words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 254), "Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God."
I was not seeking relief from the many, though not serious, troublesome conditions of matter, for I rested content in the thought that they came from God and I was expected to keep them. But as a result of very active study of Christian Science these conditions began to fall away quite rapidly, and in a few months I found myself healed of chronic headaches, a nervous condition that had been with me since childhood, a chronic stomach disorder, and many undesirable traits of disposition. Also, the healing of a loved one of the drink habit took place through reading what Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 322): "The drunkard thinks he enjoys drunkenness, and you cannot make the inebriate leave his besottedness, until his physical sense of pleasure yields to a higher sense." This healing was most gratifying, as it concerned me more than any personal healing.
For these and many other wonderful proofs of God's ever present love, which Christian Science teaches will destroy all error, I am truly grateful. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church, a branch church, and the privilege of teaching in the Sunday school. I am grateful for a better understanding of the Bible, and for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who has so lovingly given us Christian Science, "the Comforter which leadeth into all truth" (ibid., p. 127).
