Whitley Seaside Chronicle

It is a pity that a correspondent whose letter appeared in a recent issue allowed himself to be deceived by the baseless suggestions that the Manual of The Mother Church had become inoperative, and that Christian Science came otherwise than by Mrs. Eddy's inspiration. Students of Christian Science make a practice of examining the thoughts which appear at the door of consciousness, and even a cursory examination of the suggestions mentioned would have revealed their prejudiced source.

May I refer to another letter, one that appeared in a later issue? The writer's logic brought him to the question, "How did sin, evil, and disease originate in a universe where God or good is the only reality?" By fair logic they did not. Christian Science teaches that evil never existed. It seems, however, to human sense to exist; but this does not make it real or God-created. Railway lines seem to meet in the distance but do not meet, and the false seeming has to be corrected with knowledge of the fact. Similarly, the seeming existence of evil has to be corrected with the knowledge of the fact of the allness of God or good. This correction constitutes the practice of Christian Science; and this practice is, in an ever increasing degree, bearing fruit in the healing of sin and disease.

The subject is dealt with in detail in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which can be obtained on loan free of charge from any Christian Science Reading Room.
