Your issue of August 16 contains a synopsis of a sermon...

Hendon and Finchley Times

Your issue of August 16 contains a synopsis of a sermon on faith healing by the vicar of St. Jude's, which was stated to be a carefully weighed view of the pros and cons of Christian Science.

Although emphasizing the "wonderful results" he freely acknowledged had been attained by Christian Science, the preacher began by saying that he urged his hearers not to touch any so-called healing societies which turned their backs on the medical profession. Did Christ Jesus use the medical means of his time, or did he heal by spiritual means alone? Christ Jesus was the most perfect healer of sin and disease the world has ever known, yet he never resorted to drugs. Christian Science is simply a return to his method, the method of primitive Christianity.

When the preacher declared Christian Science healing to be the triumph of "mind over matter," it is evident that he was referring to the human or carnal mind, which is not a healing factor in Christian Science practice. On the contrary, Christian Science differs from all other methods of healing in that it brings the divine Mind into operation in healing the sick. The practitioner must be imbued with the Mind of Christ, which subjugates the so-called carnal mind, and allows the divine Principle, Mind, or God, to destroy the erroneous condition manifesting itself as sin or disease. Christian Science healing, therefore, is spiritual, divine healing, and benefits mentally, morally, and spiritually.
