It is with a heart full of gratitude to God that I send...
It is with a heart full of gratitude to God that I send this testimony. At the age of nineteen I was suddenly stricken with epilepsy. For thirteen years I tried every material remedy known to me for relief, but they all proved useless. I consulted several doctors, but they gave me no hope whatever, and two of them told my parents I was incurable. I grew to be so afraid of the attacks that the slightest symptom sent me into torments of fear, and I prayed to God daily to let me die. At last my condition became so bad that it was impossible for me to be alone for any length of time or to go out unaccompanied. Also, for some years, I suffered from rheumatism and could not put my hands in water without suffering intense pain. The four years previous to my taking up the study of Christian Science were long, weary years of misery.
One day a lady called at the house on business and seeing my condition asked me if I had ever tried Christian Science. I said I had not heard of it. She then gave me the name and address of a practitioner and advised me to see her at once. This was the first time this lady had called, and I have not seen her since. However, the next day, I took her advice and got in touch with the practitioner, and treatment was commenced. After a short time the attacks, which had been of a very violent nature, gradually grew less and less, until I was so free that I was able to do household duties, including washing and ironing for four members, without any help. Now, after five years, I go in and out quite naturally. Sometimes error does try to get in, but the symptoms are altogether different from what they were, and I am grateful to say I can overcome them very quickly with my own understanding of God's presence and power, which this wonderful truth has taught me. Also, after three treatments from the practitioner, I was healed of constipation of over sixteen years' standing.
Our little daughter, who had a premature birth and weighed only three pounds and a half, was continually under the doctor's care until she commenced attending the Christian Science Sunday School. Now we could not wish for a healthier, happier, or sturdier child.
