[Written for the Sentinel]

"In my Father's house"

When through a maze the mortal senses wander,
And all is dark, and fearsome seems the night,
I hear a voice, Love's way is up! and yonder
The path I see. All groweth clear and bright.
Then I arise and hie me to the Father,
For in His house is everlasting light.

When envy, hate, or fear like flood o'erwhelms me,
And clouds of sin seem dense in skies above,
I lift my eyes—Love's messenger comes quickly,
For lo, towards me descends the gentle dove.
Then I arise and hie me to the Father,
For in His house are peace and joy and love.

When sickness, pain, and weakness have o'erborne me,
And all is drear, and hopeless seems the fight,
I feel a touch—Love's arms in peace enfold me—
My thoughts ascend like eagle in his flight.
Then I arise and hie me to the Father,
For in His house are health and strength and might.
