"Let the earth open"

Isaiah writes, "Let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together." Christian Science calls forth that receptivity to good which is indispensable in every demonstration. It teaches us the art of holding our thought perpetually closed to erroneous suggestions and perpetually open to the host of spiritual ideas which divine Mind is ever giving forth. It equips us to resist and banish temptation mentally, morally, and physically.

Any tendency toward self-deception, the concealment of error or its indulgence, delays its destruction. In the quietness of our communion with God we should frankly open every corner of our hearts, every cranny of our consciousness, to the purifying action of divine Principle, Love. Then impediments to our spiritual receptivity will be removed, and we shall become aware of added illumination, strength, and comfort.

Divine Mind's supply of right ideas and qualities is always susceptible of proof. Does not Malachi proclaim, "Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it"? Here we have presented to us the outpoured blessing, the open window, and the present proof. Interpreting this text Mrs. Eddy writes, "The windows of heaven are sending forth their rays of reality—even Christian Science, pouring out blessing for cursing" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 269). These rays of real thinking can counteract the present tendency to indulge in anathema and invective because of general conditions of seeming lack and depression, and can continually enlighten the individual whose consciousness is as open to receive spiritual ideas as divine Mind is open to impart them.
