Before knowing of Christian Science I was a mental wreck; I was a slave to mental worries. Now I worry no more, thanks to a lady who gave me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and through whose generosity I have been able to enjoy the reading of The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel. I have now found God after many years of search and of reading all kinds of religious literature. I at last know the way which leads to Him, and this has come about through a constant perusal of the authorized Christian Science literature.
I am a Porto Rican, born on this island, but I wanted to write this in the language of that great woman, Mrs. Eddy. I have asked God to help me to speak in the language which was a means of my gaining some understanding of Christian Science, and also the revelation of happiness.
Some time ago my home was in a miserable condition. My wife was sick in bed; our youngest daughter, one year old, had malaria; our eldest daughter suffered from tonsillitis, from which had developed a tumor which broke in her throat; I myself was afraid of losing my job. My friend had given me that little book, Science and Health, about five years before. The thought flashed through my consciousness: What of the book, that book which the lady had said was wonderful? I got out the book. This occurred on a Saturday night. That same night I went to see the lady, told her the condition of my family, and she gave me copies of the Journal and the Sentinel and told me that I should read Science and Health. Sunday morning was bright and gay, the atmosphere was calm; I felt the presence of something great at home. Three days later we were all in good health physically and mentally. The understanding of Life, true Life, filled our thoughts as never before.
