Consecration
Rain , as well as sunshine, helps to turn a field of grain into a sea of waving gold. Likewise, the overcoming of the trials and sorrows we encounter, as well as our joys, helps to purge and purify the human consciousness of all that is false or unreal, leaving only the shining gold of purity, honesty, and consecration.
Consecration begins in thought and results in action. Generally speaking, whatever inharmony one may be experiencing may be remedied through more consecration to good. It may be corrected in the measure in which one comprehends and proves one's unity with God. He that sows the wind "shall reap the whirlwind," as the prophet declared; but he who through honest, humble devotion to good is sowing to Spirit will inevitably reap a bounteous harvest of health, happiness, and prosperity.
The false claims of self-righteousness and self-justification would tempt one to feel at times that because he has spent a portion of time studying and praying he has done much; but hear these imperative words: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Through his absolute consecration to God, the master Christian who uttered these words was increasingly proving this perfection. In one instance it is recorded "that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God," and that when he came down he was met by a multitude "and healed them all." Many a Christian Scientist has at times spent at least a portion of the night in prayer; and how great has been his reward! How clearly has he felt God's presence and heard His voice! Our beloved Leader ever practiced the closest consecration to God. On page 133 of "Miscellaneous Writings" she says: "There times a day, I retire to seek the divine blessing on the sick and sorrowing, with my face toward the Jerusalem of Love and Truth, in silent prayer to the Father which 'seeth in secret,' and with childlike confidence that He will reward 'openly.' In the midst of depressing care and labor I turn constantly to divine Love for guidance, and find rest."
