In the spring of 1905, while I was under the care of a surgeon, a loved brother-in-law sent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, with the suggestion that I read it when I was through with the surgeon's help. Up to that time I had been what a friend very aptly termed "a religious vagabond," for, since early childhood, I had been searching for the God who I knew must be Love, if what the Bible stood for was true. I was a student of the Bible only so far as others expounded it to me, but a God who both loved and hated was not my idea of an all-loving Father and creator.
When I was once again up and around I went to a student of Christian Science and asked her to help me to know a little more of this religion. In a very kindly way she led me step by step through many perplexing questions and problems, always explaining and encouraging me onward. I knew I had found that for which I had been searching.
I was a young bride when Christian Science was presented to me, and my first chance to see the power of this great truth was about two months before our first little one came. Suddenly, while I was doing my housework one morning, my right hip gave out and something seemed to snap out of place. I quietly rested and studied, trying very hard to overcome the pain I was suffering. At noon I was relieved somewhat, and my husband helped me to get to the home of the loyal practitioner. She immediately started treatment, and before she was through I was healed. Every vestige of pain was gone, and no further trouble was experienced. This is the only instantaneous healing of a serious difficulty I have had. I have had to work patiently and faithfully for the solution of every other problem, thereby gaining much understanding.
