Hitherto

Hitherto the promise has not failed us;
Hitherto Thy strength has been our stay;
We felt the guiding hand of Love and wisdom—
We found the manna ready, day by day.

Hitherto the darkened way has opened;
Hitherto Thy word has brought the light;
And shall we doubt, however bleak the pathway,
However long and dreary seems the night?

Hitherto Thy grace has been sufficient;
Hitherto Thy love has healed and blest;
To-day we know our way is in Thy keeping,
To-day upon Thy promise, proved, we rest.
