I wish to give testimony to a healing in Christian Science...

I wish to give testimony to a healing in Christian Science and to express my deep gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy for the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which has been the means of unfolding spiritual truth to me.

In the fall of 1918, before I had become interested in Christian Science, I was seized with an attack of illness which was diagnosed by my physician as bronchial pneumonia, and I was very ill for some time. In the fall of 1919, I suffered a recurrence of the attack even more severe, and was then told that a lung was affected. Owing to my excessive weight I was informed that another attack would be fatal, and that my only hope was to move to a dry climate. I did not take the advice; and in the fall of 1920 was again attacked in a more virulent form. At the time of seizure I just managed to get home from my office when I collapsed. I had strength enough left to endeavor to reach my physician on the telephone, but could not get him. I was alone, my wife being out of the city.

At that time I had a number of friends who were Christian Scientists, and my wife also attended the church services, although she was not a member. I respected their beliefs, but could not bring myself to accept them. I was desperately ill, however, and finally I succeeded in telephoning to a friend who was much interested in Christian Science, and asked her if she knew of anything I could do. She wanted to know if I would let her call a Christian Science practitioner, and I finally consented. My wife returned the next day; but my condition had become so serious that my friend thought the practitioner had better come to my house, so she and her husband drove her to my home early in the morning. I was barely conscious and hardly able to breathe, and the only thing I could say to her was, "I could not get my doctor and I have no faith in Christian Science." She remained with me a while, and as I afterwards realized, earnestly applied spiritual truth to the error which had seized me; and I can distinctly remember the great sense of calm which came over me and the entire absence of fear. The error was gradually conquered, and in one week from that time I was up, and in another week was back at my office in good health. My recovery was almost unbelievable to my business friends and associates, as from the reports they had received they assumed I was about to pass on. I have never had a recurrence of the difficulty, and I cannot adequately express my grateful feelings for the teachings of our Leader, and for the earnest work of the beloved practitioner. I learned at that time that of one's self one can do nothing, but with God's help everything is possible. I have had several healings since that time.
