I am sorry that my last letter did not give the information...

Chronicle

I am sorry that my last letter did not give the information your correspondent was seeking. He says he wants to know if Christian Science teaches that economic ills are imaginary, or (as he says, "to put it in the language of Mrs. Eddy") "false beliefs."

No Christian Scientist would make the statement, without reservation, that unemployment, trade depression, et cetera, are imaginary, any more than they would say to a human sufferer that his ills were imaginary. The Christian Scientist knows that these evil conditions seem very real in human experience. But he does make this distinction, that while they appear real to human sense, they do not exist in God, Mind, who "saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." By the true knowledge of God and man's relationship to Him, disease in the body politic can be cured, just as can disease in the human body.

It is conceded by writers who are in a position to speak of the facts that the present condition of depression in trade was caused in the first place largely by entertaining fear of the future; and fear and withholding have permeated the world of business so thoroughly that it has resulted in the present world-wide depression.
