Looking back upon the four years that I have been studying...

Looking back upon the four years that I have been studying Christian Science I find hardly a day in which I have not been deeply indebted to my all-loving Father-Mother God. I hardly know where to begin to enumerate the many blessings which I have received.

As a result of nine years of nursing a helpless and very discontented invalid I thought my nervous system was completely shattered. I suffered from insomnia, had a very unpleasant bladder complaint, and piles also caused me much discomfort. Besides this, we had formerly lived in very good circumstances, whereas we were now utterly destitute; consequently, one day I suffered a complete mental breakdown.

During my husband's illness I had heard of Christian Science, but had grasped nothing of its teachings. However, in my great need I again turned to the Bible and to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and I have proved what our dear Leader says on page 10 of Science and Health: "Seeking is not sufficient. It is striving that enables us to enter." I soon felt that a great sense of discouragement was yielding to a great trust in God; and then a hunger after things spiritual came over me, so that I could not tear myself away from the books; and in studying so diligently I forgot all about my complaints. They all vanished without my noticing it. Then followed one blessing after another. Pains in the stomach, from which my daughter suffered daily, were overcome after half an hour's reading in the textbook, and they have never returned.
