As a child I was sickly and delicate, and suffered from a serious nervous disorder. With Christian Science treatment this nervous condition was greatly improved, although not entirely overcome. I was able to go on through college and lead a normal life. Then, eight years ago, came a severe testing time, and the result was a beautiful Christian Science healing.
After the experience of premature childbirth I was desperately ill with poisoning, and was in a very critical condition. A loyal practitioner was working lovingly, but I still clung somewhat to material aids. Then Christian Science treatment was stopped, and I rapidly grew worse. The doctor who was called in at this time declared the case quite hopeless, saying the only remedy he could suggest was the removal of the diseased organs. In the meantime I had started to use drugs for relief from the intense and continuous pain, and I was fast succumbing to the drug habit. In this crisis the practitioner again took the case, but told me we should have to take a radical stand for Truth.
The struggle to give up the drug was severe and continued all one night, but the first sentence from the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy stood out in my thought, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings;" and while the practitioner was doing her work faithfully I clung to my resolution to lean on "the sustaining infinite," and not on a drug. In the morning there came a sense of peace; and suddenly a quantity of foreign matter was expelled. The complete healing was slow; but from that moment I continued to improve, and the time came when I was in better health than I had ever been in my life.
