After all the comfort and encouragement I have received...
After all the comfort and encouragement I have received from the testimonies in our Journal and Sentinel I feel it is time I submitted my testimony of gratitude also.
Ten years ago, when we moved into these hills, things seemed very dreary; but as sense-testimony was constantly denied and the truth firmly held to, many wonderful demonstrations were made. We are about twenty miles from the nearest Christian Scientists or Christian Science church, and our experiences have taught us that if we are sincere, God is proved to be everywhere and always ready to help. One child, a girl of twelve, was brought in to me one day with her foot laid open by an ax. The foot healed completely and is the same as the other. After this demonstration I had no fear to face when another child, a boy of sixteen, was brought home to me with his leg severely cut. The pain was immediately silenced, and in twenty-four hours the leg was entirely healed. A broken wrist was healed in two days; pneumonia, grippe, influenza, toothache, have all been healed.
A severe trial came five years ago when the call came to my husband to turn from sense to Soul. The difficulty took the form of insanity. When kind friends and physicians decided to send him away, as they believed it was dangerous to have him with the children and me, I preferred to keep him at home. We spent four months, night and day, in prayer. Sometimes, when the spells were severe, we used the ninety-first psalm and the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation, as given by Mary Baker Eddy in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 16, 17), the entire night through. The power of Truth won, mortal belief yielded, and he was changed: he became as a child, humble and willing to learn. It was another month, however, before he could touch our textbook without slight spells to trouble him, but a glorious victory was gained for which we are ever grateful to God. We are also grateful to the dear practitioners who helped us so courageously, and for membership in The Mother Church.
