I have experienced so many blessings since I became interested in Christian Science that I cannot begin to enumerate all of them. I had suffered for years, having many doctors and numerous surgical operations by skillful surgeons; and loving, efficient nurses helped me during these trials. The last operation was the removal of the gall bladder and a great number of gallstones; after which I was assured I would enjoy perfect health. Instead, I began to fail rapidly. My surgeon had exhausted his skill and I had consumed quantities of different medicines, only to be informed that I must return to the operating table at once, as every day counted. I was indeed discouraged, for I was tired of hospitals and operations. I decided to wait as long as I could before going back.
My husband's business required a quick transfer to another state, where I joined him several weeks later, although my surgeon objected and loving friends feared I was not equal to the trip. How grateful I am now for that trip! It was here that I became interested in Christian Science, although not for a healing, as I did not know then that Christian Science could heal.
From childhood and during the years following I had attended many different churches in the cities I visited, always with a longing to hear the Bible preached and explained, but only to go away hungry. After many years I accepted an invitation to attend a Christian Science service, where I realized I was at last hearing the Word of God. I was so hungry for the truth, and I was being fed. Then I glanced around me at the large gathering of people, and as I looked into their happy, smiling faces, I saw a great light and realized that these people had found God. I asked the dear lady who had brought me to this service where I could get "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, She lent me a copy, and I began an earnest study of it in connection with the Bible.
