Youth in Christian Science
IN these days, when much is being thought and spoken concerning the youth of our land, Christian Scientists are not overlooking their responsibilities in regard to the young people who are theirs to train; for they recognize that it is only through the teachings of Christian Science that human problems may be solved, and that true happiness and freedom for all humanity may be won. Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, with wisdom born of divine inspiration, provided wondrous facilities for the spiritual growth of those who seek to understand and to live the truth as revealed by her in Christian Science.
The children, the young men and the young women, may partake fully of this sustaining food. The Bible relates that the disciples rebuked those who brought the children to Jesus; but in the same passage it is recorded that "Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God." Then follows his declaration concerning the humility which all must attain in order to acquire a practical knowledge of the Science of Christianity: "Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein." He thereby explained that it is the pure, innocent, childlike thought which is most receptive to the correct understanding of God as attested in Christian Science.
On page 237 of the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes: "Children should be taught the Truth-cure, Christian Science, among their first lessons." Children understand Christian Science readily, and cannot be taught its truths too early. Even an infant is receptive to Truth and Love, and is calm and happy when Science and Health is being read to him. As someone has said,
