During 1904 I was ill for a long time, suffering from nervous prostration and a general breakdown. A relative invited me to come to her home, where I could have either a physician or Christian Science. As the physicians had said they could do nothing more for me, I decided to try Christian Science, though at that time I had no knowledge of its teaching. Through the help of a loving practitioner I returned home and to my work at the end of four weeks, perfectly healed. In addition, I had gained an understanding of God such as I had never had before, not of a God to be feared, but of One who is omnipresent, always ready to help in time of need, all-wise, all-loving, all-intelligent. Shortly afterward, as a result of further study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, in connection with the Bible, I laid off glasses, which I had worn since childhood, and which I had thought I should always have to wear. From then until now Christian Science, when rightly applied, has met all my needs.

Many times the question would come to me: If some sudden emergency should arise, would you be alert enough to meet it instantaneously? The answer would always come from Mrs. Eddy's words in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (pp. 149, 150), "Remember, thou canst be brought into no condition, be it ever so severe, where Love has not been before thee and where its tender lesson is not awaiting thee." One day while I was driving on a wet pavement, a truck skidded directly in front of my car. Trying to avoid an accident, I applied the brakes too quickly and the car turned completely around, plunged through a fence, and down a forty-foot embankment, turning over twice. Just as the car went through the fence a wonderful realization of God came to me. The one word included the all-power, all-presence, and all-science of God to such an extent that I was lifted completely out of the experience and knew nothing of what had happened until I was spoken to. Then I rose from the ground, where I had been thrown, and I realized that neither my husband, who was with me, nor I had been touched. Love had truly been there before us.

Truly God is good to His children, and certainly expressed His goodness by giving to the world His beloved Son, Christ Jesus, and later, Mrs. Eddy, who was able to explain Jesus' teachings so that the whole world can understand and demonstrate them.—(Mrs.) Bertha Spelman Holloway, Salt Lake City, Utah.
