[Written for the Sentinel]

Mother-Love

As when in human friendship one awakes
Lovingly conscious of a loved one's need,
And on swift wing with prompt compassion makes
Impulsive answer in both word and deed;

So Love divine responsive instantly
To every human need its solace brings,
Completely comforting, and tenderly
Gathers its little ones beneath its wings.

So through a myriad individual states
Of mental growth, divined or understood,
Impartial Love, the Mother, God, awaits
Each one's unfolding consciousness of good.
