I should like to express my deep gratitude for the wonderful help Christian Science has been to me. I first turned to it about eleven years ago for the healing of acute nervous trouble and insomnia of some years' standing, which instead of getting better had been growing steadily worse. I sought the help of a practitioner, and was healed almost instantaneously of insomnia; but the nervous trouble did not respond to treatment so quickly, and some months elapsed before I was entirely free from it. Looking back, I believe I can truthfully say I am grateful that this healing was a slow one, because the seeming difficulty in overcoming the condition made me strive all the more to grasp the truths of Christian Science and to understand what the Bible teaches of man's dominion.
Through Christian Science many healings have taken place in our family of four, among which has been the healing of rheumatism, lumbago, neuralgia, toothache, influenza, scarlet fever, and childish ailments such as whooping cough, measles, and chicken pox. Our youngest child, now ten years old, has never tasted medicine. I myself have been healed of all desire for alcoholic drinks and smoking. I am very grateful for these healings, and also for the protection we have had from accidents through Christian Science; but what I am most grateful for is the way in which the study of Christian Science has opened the Bible to me, and has helped me to realize the mission of Christ Jesus to show mankind the way out of darkness into light—out of discord and inharmony of all kinds into health and happiness.
Christian Science is teaching me that man is the child of God, made in His image and likeness, and that the best way to glorify the Father is to honor the son in ourselves, by striving for such qualities as humility, honesty, purity, and unselfed love, and by refusing to admit as real anything that is not of the Father—that is unlike good.
