Thought the Determinant Factor

When , in the spring, we watch the silent processes of nature, what a wonderful light may be thrown on our human problem! New views of God and wider interpretations of the truth are revealed to us. Many times we may have looked at some stretch of country, or even at a single tree, with unseeing or at least uncomprehending eyes: we do this, indeed, each time we see only material objects before us.

In the spring, when the sunshine draws forth growing things, the earth is transformed before our eyes! On every tree the covering leaves of the buds burst open, and the green foliage within grows beyond their hold, irresistibly drawn towards the sun, that great central orb which symbolizes the attraction of all creation to the infinite Mind, which is God.

Sometimes in the spring, during warm weather, the transformation of the earth takes place rapidly. Suddenly beholding the delicate beauty of all growing things, we are able to go a step beyond seeing with material sense only: we catch a glimpse of the new creation, to which John refers in Revelation as "a new heaven and a new earth." In other words, thought becomes aware of the existence of spiritual ideas. It is these ideas which make up the real creation, the only creation of which God, the creator of the spiritual universe, is conscious. Mrs. Eddy tells us on page 503 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Christian Science textbook, "These ideas range from the infinitesimal to infinity, and the highest ideas are the sons and daughters of God."
