As reviewed in the China Mail and the Sunday Herald, a doctor in an article entitled "Hypnotism and Psychotherapy in Medical Practice," published in the February issue of the Journal of the Hong Kong University Medical Society, associates Christian Science healing with the above methods; and for this reason I shall thank you to grant space for a correction.

Christian Science treatment is in no wise akin to mental suggestion, mesmerism, hypnotism, psychotherapy, or any other form of mental treatment which involves thought transference or the exercise of will-power. All through the writings of Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, she points out that attempts to use will-power destroy one's power to heal through the law of God. She classifies them under "animal magnetism," and regards the correct understanding of this subject as so important that, in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she has devoted a chapter to it entitled "Animal Magnetism Unmasked."

Such being the case, the doctor is mistaken when he reproaches Christian Scientists with trying to use these methods without medical knowledge, for such knowledge would be a hindrance rather than an aid to the genuine Christian Science practitioner, who relies radically on the divine Mind, God.
