A good many years ago I was appearing with a theatrical company at the old Walnut Street Theater in Cincinnati, Ohio. I had gone to my hotel and retired for the night when suddenly I was awakened by a most excruciating pain in my back. A Christian Science Journal supplied me with the telephone number of a Christian Science practitioner, who was called. In a few moments the pain had subsided so that I notified her she need not come during the night, but in the morning, as I was due for a matinee. By nine o'clock this faithful worker was at my bedside. To rise to a sitting position or get on my feet seemed impossible. For three hours this condition remained; but by twelve o'clock my thought began to quicken and the spiritual truth of the words the dear worker was repeating gradually became a reality to my consciousness. Suddenly I felt the stone pass from the kidney without pain. Immediately I was on my feet and dressing. A lunch was sent to my room, and by one o'clock I was in my dressing room at the theater, about one block from the hotel. I was practically not off my feet again until eleven o'clock that night. There was a slight irritation of the bladder for three days, when that too disappeared.

Through many years Christian Science has been my only physician, following the very wonderful healing of my dear mother after twenty years of semi-invalidism and great suffering, and after the physicians in consultation had given her but three quarters of an hour to live. She lived to practice Christian Science for twenty-six years.

For the rare blessings the years have brought me and for some measure of growth, my gratitude goes out to that "light of the world," Christ Jesus; to that fearless yet gentle beacon light to this age, Mary Baker Eddy; and to the divine presence that I know has always been with me even when it seemed "most invisible."
