Your issue of October 12 reports an address at Columbia University. This report credits a speaker with classifying Christian Science as a "fad."

The real test for a Christian is found in the words of Christ Jesus, "Ye shall know them by their fruits." Christian Science has been founded for the past half century. In that length of time it has established two thousand three hundred and eighty-six self-supporting churches and societies throughout the world, without a revival or evangelistic service, and without a campaign for funds. It has established and is operating successfully a great international daily newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor, recognized by journalists generally as an ideal of clean journalism. It also publishes five magazines: the Christian Science Sentinel, a weekly magazine; The Christian Science Journal, Der Herold der Christian Science, and Le Héraut de Christian Science, monthly magazines [and the Scandinavian Herald, a quarterly magazine]. The practical results of the application of the teachings of Christian Science to the ills of body, mind, and spirit to which mortal man seems to be heir, speak for themselves. A very large portion of the adherents of Christian Science come from the ranks of those who have been healed of all manner of ills after other remedial means and system have failed to bring relief.

All this has been done in the face of persecution, ridicule, and interference; but the Christian Science movement is larger and stronger to-day than ever before in its history, and is recognized generally as a Christian denomination.
