And hearts that grieved were healed—
His holy Word, whose blessed light
Man's heritage revealed.

"He sent his word,"
And struggling hosts forgot
The witness false of ages past
That hope's fair page would blot.

"He sent his word"
Of omnipresent Truth,
And sons of men rejoiced to find
Surcease from care and ruth.

"He sent his word"
To still the voice of strife,
And with it Love's own covenant
And gift—eternal Life.
