Over twenty years ago I became interested in Christian Science, and ever since have been a student of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. During the intervening time I have experienced many wonderful healings, among them that of hemorrhoids in a very severe form, fatigue, sore throat, and colds. Our daughter was born soon after I came into Christian Science, and the birth was normal, compared with that of our son six years previously.
I wish to relate a healing that occurred nearly eight years ago, with the thought that it may prove of benefit to others. I was stricken with neuritis. It came on so subtly that I was not aware of its hold until it seemed to have me firmly in its grip. My work in Christian Science seemed to avail nothing. I then employed a practitioner. She worked faithfully for days without relief; then I tried another, then another. Finally I wrote to a dear friend whom I had known when first a student in Science and asked her for treatment.
At that time I lived in Wisconsin and my friend in Ohio. She wrote me several helpful letters, then asked me to come to her home. This I longed to do, for she had helped me many times. I was very much crippled in my right leg, which was swollen about the ankle, and my hip protruded badly. My family were wonderfully kind, although not Christian Scientists. My son gave me money for the trip, and my husband took me to Chicago and put me on a through train for my destination. I arrived safely and was taken to my friend's home. That night I was invited to go to bed but said, "I cannot; I have not been able to lie down and sleep for six weeks." So I was made as comfortable as possible in a sitting position. The following night it was the same. The third night my friend said, "Now you are going to bed; and you are going to sleep." I was obedient, and she sat by my bedside for a time doing her mental work. When she left me I do not know; but I do know that I slept like a child, the first time in bed for six weeks. When I arose in the morning I exclaimed, "Why, the swelling is all gone from my limb and ankle!"
