[Written for the Sentinel]

The Voice

Across life's turbulent and angry sea
A voice is carried on love's wings to me;
In accents penetrating inmost soul
It tells of joy and peace and holy things,
Of cruel thongs released and freedom won—
The voice of Truth.

It cometh like the kindness of a friend,
Like sunshine after darkness, black and drear,
Like leaves unfolding, soft and silently,
From out the stillness of the winter's sleep;
Like gentle rain upon the thirsty soil—
To all who seek.

It satisfies the longings of the soul;
It comforts, feeds, and heals the hungry heart;
It wipes away the tears from saddened eyes,
And banishes the night of earth-torn sense,
Revealing Him in glory to the sight
Of all who find.
