Since 1914 I had suffered terribly from glaucoma in both eyes, which is considered incurable. One eye was completely deprived of sight and the other greatly affected. The eyeballs were so hard that they felt as though they were in a vise. Being employed in a bank, I laboriously accomplished the task intrusted to me, although I was relieved of much of it. I read and wrote with great difficulty, and could do so only when the characters were large; and often I had to use a magnifying glass. A great enlargement of the stomach forced me to follow a dry diet and necessitated my wearing a belt. I lost my memory, too, and, as if my cup were not sufficiently full, my left arm became half paralyzed and useless in September, 1927.
I was in a deplorable state which, alas, I no longer had strength to resist, and from which I despaired of recovery. I had arrived at the point of doubting even God's existence when a young office associate, a student of Christian Science, spoke to me of this Science. What she said aroused my curiosity and I wished to know more. She lent me several books, among others the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The two religions which I had previously followed had not given me faith, for many questions remained unanswered, and what answers were given were far from being satisfactory to me. I saw in Christian Science the truth for which I had sought in vain, and resolved to pursue the study of it. My young coworker asked the aid of a practitioner for me, and it was given at once. To-day my heart overflows with joy that I can witness to the work which the Christ, Truth, has accomplished in me. I have stopped using all medicine; I no longer feel any pain in my eyes, and they move normally. I read and write even the smallest characters without any difficulty, and for as long as I wish. I no longer wear smoked glasses in the sunlight. The enlargement of the stomach has disappeared and I eat whatever is served me, without any ill effects. My arm is well, without my knowing when the healing took place. My memory has returned. Further, a violent toothache was relieved in twenty-four hours. When I severely wounded my finger, it healed in two days without either inflammation or pain.
I give thanks to God for Christian Science; and I include in my gratitude Mrs. Eddy, the good practitioner, and my young office associate.—Paul Ducloux, Soyer à Chanteloup les Vignes, Seine-et-Oise, France.
