The Banner of Christianity

In so far as its citizens respect it, each nation's flag has a unifying influence and forecasts the universal adoption of the banner of Christianity, pointing to the everlasting unity, peace, and freedom of all God's creation.

On page 224 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes: "Truth brings the elements of liberty. On its banner is the Soul-inspired motto, 'Slavery is abolished.' " Where is the banner of Christianity to be held aloft? In the thoughts and lives of every Christian man, woman, and child. This banner with its Soul-inspired, not sense-inspired, motto is needed for the liberation of enslaved mortals all over the world.

Convinced through the teachings of Christian Science that God, Spirit, is the supreme Lawgiver, ruling in perfect harmony all that He creates, the Christian Scientist has before him the task of proving this great fact in the face of contrary evidence. Not only during his hours of study and theoretical agreement with the teachings of Christian Science, but practically, by the bedside of the sick, in the presence of a sorely tempted sinner or of one who is sorrow-stricken, alongside of those who are a prey to fear; in fact, wherever bondage seems to be rampant, there the Christian Scientist flies the flag of freedom in Truth. How does he do this? By silently or audibly declaring the all-might of Spirit and the eternal harmony of spiritual consciousness. So doing, he specifically denies to matter and evil any presence, power, law, or consciousness. Above all eloquent speech, however, it is by actually demonstrating the liberating power of Truth that the Christian Scientist strives to glorify God and to meet every need of mortals.
