[Written for the Sentinel]

What Is Prayer?

What is prayer? Not speech alone,
But closer touch with things divine;
The seeds of Truth in secret sown,
That asketh not for outward sign.

What is prayer? 'Tis Love's expression,
Dispelling all the clouds of sin;
A perfect joy, a rich possession,
Which is the peace of God within.

What is prayer? A song of praise,
Within the heart for every day;
And when our thanks to God we raise,
We find in this the perfect way.

Desire is prayerScience and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, page 1 . ; and our desires,
Conformed to God's eternal plan,
Love molds aright, and this inspires
Our highest hope—the perfect man.
