A report in the March 6 issue of your paper gave the information that a doctor, in a recent address at the Iowa State College in Ames, referred to Christian Science as being founded "on the principle of cure by power of suggestion." This assertion concerning Christian Science is wholly erroneous, and if considered at all seriously would convey to your readers an impression exactly the reverse of true.

The operation of Christian Science healing is antipodal to any action or "suggestion" of the so-called human mind, as anyone who has the slightest knowledge of its teachings knows. Mrs. Eddy clearly explains in her writings that the action of the human mind has no part in the practice of Christian Science healing. The foundation of Christian Science is the divine Principle, God, and the only "Mind" operative in its healing ministrations is that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus." Concerning various speculations as to any supposed power of the human mind, Mrs. Eddy writes on page 185 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Such theories have no relationship to Christian Science, which rests on the conception of God as the only Life, substance, and intelligence, and excludes the human mind as a spiritual factor in the healing work."

It is to be regretted that a member of the respected medical profession should persist in an attempt to misrepresent a Christian religion, after being repeatedly shown that what he has said about it is erroneous. Those of your readers who may have been misled to consider the physician's remarks as correctly portraying Christian Science are invited to read for themselves the Christian Science textbook, which may be found in most public libraries. A cursory perusal of this book will convince the reader that "suggestion" is given no authority in Christian Science.
