My mother was healed through Christian Science treatment of an organic trouble from which she had suffered for seven years. She had tried many doctors and medicines, but with no satisfactory result. Since this healing, thirty-three years ago, she has been an earnest student of Christian Science, and in rearing her family of eight children she has proved many times the words of David, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

Eighteen years ago my husband was in very poor health. The doctors in the little town where we lived and a specialist in Seattle agreed that an operation for gallstones was his only chance of recovery. For a while my husband felt this was his only hope; but not having much faith in an operation, he finally decided to try Christian Science. He took up the study earnestly, and although no practitioner was employed, a decided improvement was noticed and he found he could eat what he liked without pain. Before long he was entirely healed of the trouble. Not long after this, while he was filing saws, a piece of steel flew into his eye. He did not notice it much at the time, but in the night he awakened me, saying that water was running out of his eye and the suffering was intense. I repeated "the scientific statement of being" from page 468 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and talked to him a while about this great truth, until he said the pain had stopped and he could rest. The next evening he went to the doctor to have the piece of steel removed, but after examining the eye the doctor told him there was nothing in it and no evidence of anything having been there, so proving the truth of our Leader's words on page 463 of Science and Health, "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."

With our family of six children, this great truth about God and man's relation to Him has proved to be an indispensable help. When our second child was three years old she became quite ill one morning. Toward evening she was worse, and although I declared the truth for her, as we are taught in Christian Science, I was up with her all that night, and sometimes it seemed as if she would pass on. By morning she could neither speak nor swallow, and seemed burning up with fever. I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner and to my husband, who was working in another town. The practitioner gave the child just one treatment. My husband came home and stayed until she was better. In three days she was playing with her sister on the floor. For a while she seemed in pain when she tried to walk, but in a month she was rosy cheeked and in perfect health; and the dread disease left no bad after effects. Thanks be to God and to Christian Science that it is possible to pass through these experiences without having "the smell of fire" left on our clothes, as was the experience of the three Hebrew boys in Bible times.
