For about seven years I was seriously ill with tuberculosis...
For about seven years I was seriously ill with tuberculosis of the lungs. I consulted many doctors, and hardly a day passed that I not take some kind of medicine. But it was all of no avail. In 1922 I was obliged to follow a course of treatment. Six months later, on the first day after I was dismissed, I suffered from a return of the old complaint, hemorrhage of the lungs. I was quite desperate, and recalled a remark one of the head nurses had made to the patients. She said we all were, without exception, done for. At the time she said this we all cried bitterly; but to-day I know that God is my Life, and that there is no power which can destroy it.
A year after I had finished the cure I was taken very ill again. The doctors diagnosed hemorrhages of the lungs, pleurisy, and inflammation of the diaphragm, and gave no hope of my recovery. But "man's extremity is God's opportunity." Christian Science came into our home and a loving practitioner gave me treatment. After two treatments the tormenting pains were overcome. After seven days I arose from my bed. When the doctor visited me and had examined me, he declared that everything was healed. He said a miracle had taken place; but I knew that a miracle had not happened—that the healing was divinely natural. Since 1923 I have taken no more medicine; neither have I consulted a doctor. I take great pleasure in doing my work, for I have lost all fear of sickness. I ride a bicycle and have made some pleasant tours with it. Error has returned to its native nothingness, and perfect harmony has taken its place. I am filled with profound gratitude to God, and to our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and am endeavoring to walk constantly in the straight and narrow way of good.
