Before taking up the study of Christian Science I was...
Before taking up the study of Christian Science I was far from being happy, having been told by physicians that I never could be well. I patiently accepted that verdict for several years. Then the awakening came when I realized that in the orthodox church of which I was a member I was not gaining the spiritual good which I needed, and for which I was earnestly longing. Added to that, a dear one passed on, causing untold grief. I then turned to a Christian Scientist for a way out of my distress, and was very lovingly advised to purchase the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I can never be sufficiently grateful for having done so. The statements on page 248 were a great revelation, and I at once realized that we are all sculptors, and that my idea of man was a wrong model. After learning what man in God's image means, namely, the perfect model, spiritual man, I accepted the perfect idea, and through that first uplift I was healed of tuberculosis, heart disease, constant use of glasses, and weekly sick headaches which had kept me in bed all day. That was about eight years ago, and I have had no recurrence of these illnesses. I have also had a beautiful healing of ptomaine poisoning within a few hours, through my own work, by steadfastly declaring that God is the only power.
Words cannot express my deep gratitude for all these healings, and more especially for ever increasing spiritual understanding.—(Miss)Mary Sheffield Purdy, Norwalk, Connecticut.
