St. Louis Globe-Democrat

The Globe-Democrat recently reported an address which was delivered before the Fleur de Lis Society of the university. In his address, the clergyman is reported to have stated that while he admitted "there were cures through faith-healing, these cures are natural results caused by suggestion, and are not miracles." Because many people, through misinformation, are led to classify Christian Science as a faith cure, as that term is generally understood, I shall appreciate your kindness if you will allow me space in your paper to point out the particular feature which characterizes Christian Science as totally distinct from any curative system in which the human mind is considered a factor and is so employed.

The premise from which every conclusion is reached in Christian Science is that God is All-in-all, the one and only Mind, the one and only real power. It logically follows that the human mind, with its so-called power of suggestion, cannot be a real entity. Christian Science maintais that the human mind is but a counterfeit of the one omnipotent divine Mind, and therefore that it could not be a factor in true spiritual healing. Through spiritual understanding of God's all-ness and radical reliance on His power, disease of the most virulent type has been healed in Christian Science. Many authenticated cases of such are given in the weekly and monthly Christian Science periodicals. It may thus be seen that Christian Science healing can be rightly termed faith-healing only as that term is understood in its right sense.
