The article entitled "Snow Upon the Desert's Dusky...

One Big Union Bulletin

The article entitled "Snow Upon the Desert's Dusky Face," in a recent issue of your paper, contains entirely erroneous statements regarding Mrs. Eddy and Christian Science, which require correction. The assertion that Mrs. Eddy obtained, by dishonest means, "a few mystic" and "worthless ideas from a country medical man," on which she based her own philosophy, is a time-worn canard. That Mary Baker Eddy's writings were original was fully established in a United States court of law as far back as 1883.

For the information of your readers, I may also state that Christian Science is based solely upon the spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures, especially the words and works of Christ Jesus. On page 126 of her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which contains the complete statement of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy has written:"I have found nothing in ancient or in modern systems on which to found my own, except the teachings and demonstrations of our great Master and the lives of prophets and apostles. The Bible has been my only authority. I have had no other guide in 'the straight and narrow way' of Truth."
